So Dancing With The Stars contestant Bristol Palin thought it was probably safe enough to make a trip home - and take her dancing partner along with her.
The 19-year-old single mother took some time out from her busy schedule for the celebrity reality TV show to jet home to Alaska to see the family.
Palin was not employed by The Campaign, nor was she a spokesperson for the organization.
Her duties as a paid spokeswoman involved attending town hall meetings, talking about abstinence, public service announcements, and giving interviews on morning talk shows.
Programme staff were put on "high alert" and one said: "Security is on absolute lockdown.
Bristol is surrounded by security guards everywhere she goes." Last week a threatening letter with white powder was received at the programme’s production offices and the FBI was called in. A viewer in Wisconsin recently became so angry after watching Miss Palin perform that he fired a shotgun at his television and became involved in an armed stand-off with police.
Miss Palin said she intended to dance in a style that “didn’t embarrass her mom”, a former vice-presidential candidate.
